ISSF: Stainless steel is the metal with the most growth potential in the past 70 years

The 2021 edition of the “Stainless Steel Statistics” manual released by the International Stainless Steel Forum (ISSF) on May 27 shows that from 1950 to 2020, the global stainless steel crude steel production increased from approximately 1 million tons to 50.892 million tons, with a compound annual growth rate of 5.68%. .

From 1980 to 2020, the global stainless steel crude steel output has a compound annual growth rate of 5.13%, which is higher than 3.68% for aluminum, 2.57% for copper, 2.42% for carbon steel, 2.02% for zinc and 1.94% for lead.

Compared with 2005, the global share of China’s stainless steel crude steel output in 2020 has increased significantly from 12.9% to 59.2%, which has also compressed the share of other major regions: Europe has dropped from 34.8% to 12.4%, excluding Asia including China, South Korea, and Indonesia (mainly Japan, India and Taiwan) dropped from 29.7% to 12.6%, the United States dropped from 9.2% to 4.2%, and other regions (Indonesia, South Korea, South Africa, Brazil, Russia) From 13.5% to 11.5%.

In 2020, the top countries or regions in the production of stainless steel crude steel are: Mainland China (30.139 million tons), EU 6.323 million tons, of which Finland/Sweden/UK/Poland/Slovenia/Czech Republic (2.165 million tons) , Belgium/Austria (1.471 million tons), Italy (1.33 million tons), Spain (836,000 tons), Germany (366,000 tons), France (208,000 tons). India (3.1157 million tons), Japan (2.413 million tons), the United States (2.144 million tons), Taiwan (859,000 tons), Indonesia/South Korea/South Africa/Brazil/Russia (5.857 million tons).

Among the global apparent consumption of stainless steel in 2020, mainland China, other parts of Asia, Western Europe, the Americas, and Central and Eastern Europe are ranked first. Among them, only mainland China has a higher share than the previous year and is close to 60%.

In 2020, the consumption of stainless steel will be divided into different industries, metal products will account for about 37.7%, mechanical engineering will account for about 28.7%, construction will account for about 12.4%, electrical appliances will account for about 7.8%, and motor vehicles and parts will account for about 8.3% (about 17.9% for developed countries) , Developing countries account for about 4.5%), and other transportation sectors account for about 5.1%.
