The many varied uses of stainless steel have made it an ubiquitous material. It is mainly because of its resiliency, high resistance to tarnish as well as rust that is popularly used for household and industrial purposes. 1. Once a stain/mark appears attend to it at once. Allowing the stain/mark to stay longer will make it harder to remove and may require the use of potentially damaging cleaning agents.

2. There are several homemade cleaning agents that you can use to polish stainless steel, such as vinegar, ammonia glass cleaner, and even warm water. Simply moisten a soft, clean cloth with any of these and then wipe down your object. Other homemade polishing substances include a combination of olive oil and club soda, and baking soda mixed with warm water.

3. If the object has far too much grime or the marks are too difficult to remove, you may purchase commercial specialized cleaners which you can readily find at your local department store. However, it is important to note that not all cleaners are “food safe” so be careful what you use on your cookware and cutlery. Read the label first before buying and using any cleaner.

4. Avoid cleaners that contain chlorine because that substance can damage the surface. It is preferable to use cleaners that have ammonia instead.

5. Polish using only non-abrasive materials, because the surface will easily be scratched if you use rough items to polish it. Soft, clean cloth is the most ideal material to polish stainless steel with.
